Welcome to Magbagsetc where you will find unique handcrafted
bags, purses, clutches, wallets,
jewelry including earrings, and 3 in 1's - scarf ring/brooch/necklace,
and accessories for your home, like vases, wall art, and shadowboxes.
All pieces are 100% Canadian handcrafted,
right here in beautiful British Columbia.

Using silk fibre, I create a completely new fabric using a process called silk fusion. The fibres bond tightly together resulting in a fabric that is one of a kind and completely unique. I now offer a variety of machine embroidery patterns as well, which makes the silk fusion pop even more!
The body of the bags is cork, imported through a Canadian company called MM Cork Supply located right here in B.C.
I also utilize various other mediums like acrylic and resin pours to create unique and beautiful art pieces that add a statement to whatever room they go in.
My stock is constantly evolving and changing, and while I often have bags and art pieces in stock, I would love to design and make something just for YOU! Check out my Etsy shop to see what's currently available - and if you don't see it, reach out. I can help you design something you LOVE!
If you're in Victoria, BC, my studio is always set up to display my current offerings - please email to set up an appointment to come by and see what is available.

About Susan, owner and creator at Magbagsetc!

I am a retired registered nurse, a wife, and mother of 4 grown kids, and now a grandmother of 4 and counting!
About 10 years ago I was shown a process using silk roving called silk fusion. This process captured my imagination and over the last 10 years, I have used this process in many interesting and creative ways. This results in unique pieces of fabric art every time - even I don't know what the end product will look like!
Most recently I have discovered working with all-natural cork leather fabric, and the possibilities combined with silk fusion are endless. I make my own patterns, as well as using more established ones, and this creative process of experimenting is essential to my art.
7 years ago I attended my first artisan craft market and found it a great place to meet folks and sell my creations. I sell at markets and artist's collectives but I find I am now also ready to enter the world of online selling. Here on my website, you can find the link to my Etsy shop, where you can see all the possible combinations I offer [cork, fusion, hardware, zippers, pockets, etc] to put together your ideal bag/wallet/cuff or whatever else your heart desires! Get in touch with me via the email button below to discuss possibilities!
The creative process is exciting and necessary to provide balance in my life. As I enter retirement, this has become both my passion and my business.
I continue to cherish my time in the studio, finding new ways to use silk and other fibres, as well as resin and acrylic pours as I invent new bag patterns, create art pieces, and experiment with new artistic processes.

The Artistic Process
My bags are made of a combination of silk fusion, cork leather, and lined with all-natural cotton or silk. I have begun adding a vast variety of machine embroidery patterns. I use all kinds of different materials in my jewelry including felted wool, machine embroidery, and Swarovski crystals, to name a few.
Below you can see some photos of the process!

Machine Embroidery
I've recently discovered machine embroidery, and I'm having the time of my life! There are limitless possibilities - here are a few of the patterns I've discovered! These patterns can be adjusted for practically any size of silk fusion - and can be applied to any bag or wallet I offer. Be sure to ask what's new!

Cork Leather
Cork leather is what the majority of the body of my bags are made of. Cork is an all-natural, sustainable fibre, that wears like leather. I source my cork fabric from B.C. business owner MM Cork Supply, who imports it directly from Portugal.
From her website: "Cork is an eco-friendly alternative to leather that is natural, sustainable, vegan, and PETA certified. The cork bark is peeled from the tree by skilled labourers without harming the tree. The same tree can be harvested every 9 years for up to 300! Cork leather is as strong as its animal counterpart, water-resistant, and has naturally occurring antibacterial & antimildew properties. The cork I carry has been treated to be stain-resistant (Scotch Guard) and has had a UV treatment and an abrasion treatment. They have been tested in external labs for abrasion (Martindale test), UV resistance, Vamp Flex, and Ignition (fire) The dye does not run when wet, and it can easily be cleaned with soap and warm water. Do not iron the cork."
Below, you can see some examples of the colors available in cork! To see more, visit MM Cork Supply - I will happily special order small lots of whatever cork you would like and design a bag around it.
